This factory, which you may not have heard of yet, is making some of the most critically acclaimed cigars on the market today: Tabacalera La Palma.
Boutique Blends is the company that creates and markets both Swag and Ageing Room Cigars.
This company is unique in that it works in true partnership with its factory. Rafael Nodal, Hank Bischoff and Jose ‘Jocky’ Blanco work on the blends and packaging, and all the cigars come from the Palma factory, which is owned by Jochy Blanco.
Following the successes of many limited edition cigars and the recent Ageing Room Maduro, Boutique blends is inviting customers to help choose its next cigar. You will find a package of the WILDPACK at your local cigar retailer. The package contains ten experimental cigars, which Rafael , Hank and Jocky have worked on. After you have smoked the cigars, the team is asking you to evaluate them and give feedback via their website.
The WILD PACK includes cigars with many different wrappers and blends, which include many aged tobaccos, like their other Ageing Room cigars. In many ways, the aged tobaccos that come from La Palma are what give the Ageing Room line its uniqueness.
Tabacalera La Palma is more than a factory. Owner Jocky Blanco has tobacco farming in his heritage. After supplying his tobaccos to the best cigar makers in the industry for years, he decided to use some of the rarest and most aged tobaccos in his warehouse for blends in the Ageing Room lines of cigars.
This decision, made with Rafael and Hank, was the birth of the Ageing Room. Now the brand’s cigars are all made with a selection of aged tobaccos all grown in his fields around Santiago in the Dominican Republic. This is very noticeable in the new Ageing Room Maduro.
The genius of the company’s blending is that they use the aged tobaccos to make the cigars both smooth but also strong in taste. In doing so, they achieve the kind of balance of flavour and refinement sought after by most cigar makers.
