Whiskey

There are many variations of whiskey that pair well with a range of cigar types. Traditional Canadian or Irish whiskeys generally tend to compliment mild cigars due to their smoothness. However, there are also whiskeys such as Bourbon that combine well with stronger cigars as a result of their sweetness.

Brandy

When it comes to Brandy, there are two main brackets, Cognac and Armagnac. Cognacs have a nutty aroma which typically goes well with cigars of the stronger variety. Armagnacs on the other hand, are much more multifaceted and can pair well with a multitude of cigar types.

Rum

Cigars and rum have a long and rich history so it is no surprise that rum is one of the most popular drinks to have with a cigar. Particularly favoured by Cuban cigar smokers, the sweetness of the rum combines exceptionally well with the aroma that the cigars give off. It should be said however that the above comments only apply to dark rum. White rum is generally used more as a mixer and therefore does not quite have the same effect when paired with a cigar.
