The Davidoff Cigar Special – Yamasa History
Davidoff has just presented its Yamasa range. It is a series of limited cigars, encompassing seven formats, five of which are sold in Europe, Asia and the United States. Two further formats are sold by collectors and they will be available until the end of harvest.
The Davidoff Yamasa represents a wrapper creation that is exclusively grown in Ecuador. It is a hybrid, consisting of Cuban seeds. Davidoff experts will remember that the Yamasa wrapper was used for the first time in the Yamasa Robusto.
The tobacco grows in the Cotopaxi province in Ecuador. The farms are 240 metres above sea level and daily temperatures range between 25 and 28 degrees. Another point that should be mentioned is that the fields are surrounded by a great deal of forest, which protects the tobacco from the wind.
There are also many volcanoes in this region which has made the earth particularly fecund. The natural cloud cover that this area receives allows many of the plants to grow to over two metres tall. Additionally, the tobacco leaves, which grow beneath the cloud cover, are much oiler, more elastic and shinier.
The taste of the Davidoff Yamasa Robusto wrapper is quite intense. It has a spicy aroma with hints of light pepper, cream and roasted coffee. This beautiful Davidoff blend of tobacco is made by a combination of seeds, which has taken many years to perfect. The exact combination is still kept a secret to this day.
